Pike's Installation

What is this all about Monk?

That ol debil Duchamp established the found object as art. I have taken a photograph of fly tipping that I found on National trust land and percieved it as art. An installation with no pretensions, engaging, challenging with colour shape and form. The fact that it is seen as an unwelcome intervention with a complete disregard for social convention makes it even more Duchampian. The fact that most of the materials are recyclable and as such are gaining more value adds an irony to the casual disposal of them which was presumably done because the cost of disposal officially was a deterant. I also think the aesthetic of the two piles is similar to some contemporary work(Kieran Brown) where making the discarded and the unacceptable is part of the exploration and motivation. I hope this illuminates or at least provides you with my thoughts on the matter. I would be interested in why you singled it out and your thoughts.

Nice to hear from you again.

I couldn't fathom if it had been put there as art or was just something that had occured by accident. I like the two piles thing - i am drawn from one pile to the next and then back again with a head full of questions. I like the colours and shapes in the Pikey pile too - i want to explore it. The more I think about this now that you've put it in context the more I like it. Now I want to go out into nature, find some 'piles' that blend into the surroundings and then create a plie of my own as a contrast/in harmony to/with what's already there.

I'm 'finding' some interesting things at the moment. There are two photos on my blog and hopefully more to follow!
